If God held a job fair, who would He hire?

Genesis 2:2 reads “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done”.  Clearly the God we serve is an advocate of those who work.  God was pretty clear in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat”.  In fact, workplace “how-to’s” are found throughout the Bible, including hiring practices.

When it comes to hiring all we have to do is open our Spiritual eyes when reading the ultimate employee manual. All the policy and procedure we need was documented over 2000 years ago.  The Bible reveals the heart of God concerning the workplace.  But as we know, God is never recognized, He is always revealed.  So until we seek God for guidance, we often choose what we think is best and end up having to regroup.  We can view the Word of God and take notes on how God built His first empire.

When God recruited for His first corporation; Adam was hired as the first worker and Eve as the first co-worker. There was a man and a woman on board so God supports diversity.  There was a written job description (till the land and name the animals).  So why do we make it so difficult when it comes to selecting a candidate? Now that we are clear God intends for us to work and expects order in the workplace; let’s take a look at who God would hire if He held a job fair.

  • President and CEO / Perfect Candidate:  Daniel He had a Spirit of excellence and no one could find fault with his administration.  (Daniel 6:3)
  • Corporate Trainer / Perfect Candidate: King Solomon He trained up a labor force (1 Kings 5:13)
  • Master Networker / Perfect Candidate:  King Hezekiah He rose early to gather with the rulers of the City. (2 Chronicles 29:20)
  • Employee Relations Manager / Perfect Candidate: Abigail With just her words and quick wit, she was an expert in conflict management (1 Samuel 25:25)
  • Business Development Manager / Perfect Candidate:  Habakkuk He wrote the first business plan making the vision plan on tablets (Habakkuk 2:2)
  • Sales / Perfect Candidates:  children of Israel They were required to gather a daily quota before the manna ceased (Exodus 16:4)
  • Consultant / Perfect Candidate:  Joshua He understood he was responsible for making his way prosperous (Joshua 1:8)
  • Research Analyst / Perfect Candidate:  Caleb He was one of two scouts to return with valuable information (Numbers 13:30)

If you truly serve a God of a second chance, reflect His image when it comes to hiring.  As Christians, we should trust God more and the world systems less. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the best person for the position.  While we should use the resources available to help make wise decisions, we also must become less dependent on credit history, criminal backgrounds and reference checks AND test the Spirit by the Spirit.  In all situations, use wisdom, but make sure it is the wisdom of God.
